From the Minoans to the Venetians wine tour
We drive towards Dafnes wine region in Heraklion. The largest appellation of Crete. The heart of viticulture, where wine making has never stopped for 4000 consecutive years.
The wine tour starts at Idaia winery in the small village of Venerato, where we taste 5 selected wines from your own sommelier, based on your personal style and preferences.
During the first stop you will learn with in a fun way the secrets of professional wine tasting, the history of Dafnes and delve into the unique terroir of this amazing wine region. In a 10 minutes driving distance is the second winery the family owned Diamantakis winery. At this winery you will have the opportunity to stroll inside a vineyard learn the art of viticulture and admire the breathtaking view of the surrounding area and the Aegean sea. You will see how tsikoudia is made Crete’s national distilled drink made from the pommace of grapes and then taste 5 selected wines from Diamantakis winery paired with mezze style lunch at the winery’s terrace.
Last stop takes place in an ancient small forest path where you will have the opportunity to do an easy trek that leads to Minoan stone presses which were also used massively during the Venetian times.

Departure
10.00 : Departure from your hotel in Heraklion, enjoying having a sommelier sharing her knowledge of Crete region and its wines.
First Stop Idaia winery
10.40 : Arrival at the small village of Venerato, where you will enjoy a premium wine tasting from carefully selected wines based on your likes from your own sommelier. 5 wines and a pairing with homemade Cretan ‘rusks’ and organic olives from the winery’s olive grove. During the tasting you are learning in a happy and fun way the secrets of tasting.
Second Stop Diamantakis winery
13.00 : Arrival at Diamantakis winery,a family owned winery with long tradition in grapes growing, ‘tsikoudia’ and wine making. You will walk through the isles of the vineyards, you will learn about the art of viticulture and be able to see the rare trellising system of lyra for the indigenous variety of vidiano. You will enjoy at their beautiful wine tasting terrace 5 premium wines paired with local mezze dishes.
Small forest easy hike
15.30: Final stop at a small forest where you will walk a very easy hike of 10 minutes and you will reach an amazing area with stone curved ancient wine presses where they also used during the Venetian times. Photo op and memories of a lifetime
